Construction & Contractors Blog
There are many jobs around the home that you can take care of yourself without much danger, from changing lightbulbs to repairing a tire on your car to building a little kennel for your dogs. However, there are some chores that might seem easy enough but should always be left to the professionals for a few different reasons. If you are considering getting rid of the insulation in your attic, you might think that this is something you can do on your own. That could not be further from the truth, and here are a few reasons why that is.
Dangerous Material
While insulation is not always toxic in and of itself, there is a chance that if your attic insulation is old enough, it could contain asbestos. Even if it does not contain asbestos, if it is loose-fill insulation then there is a very high probability that it will get in your lungs and cause you severe grief. Insulation is not something you should ever play around with or take lightly, it is a very dangerous material that people are only just starting to recognize as being exceptionally problematic and having the potential to cause long-term illnesses and diseases.
Hot In There
Another reason why you should leave attic insulation removal to the experts is that they can monitor the temperature of the rooms that they work in to ensure it never gets beyond a safe level. If you wait until summer or even just a particularly warm winter's day, the attic can heat up tremendously in a short space of time. Doing some heavy lifting and hard work in temperatures that easily hit one hundred degrees plus is a recipe for disaster. The last thing you want is to pass out from heat exhaustion in a confined space like your attic, which is why using professionals is much safer.
Disposal
Even if by some miracle you did manage to get rid of most of the insulation in your attic on your own, what then? Bagging it all up and putting it all together in the same place is not easy as it is quite a crumbly material at the best of times. Then you would have to haul it off to a landfill site that would also have to accept it (and they may not if it contains asbestos or think it might be dangerous). Attic insulation removal companies take care of this so you never even have to wonder where all this stuff is going once it leaves your property.

Construction contractors have a very important job. They literally build the structures we live in, work in, and entertain ourselves in. They have control over how these spaces look, and also over how safe these spaces are. Some contractors lay flooring. Others install flooring. Some are generalists and do a bit of everything, from roofing to painting. When you start to understand the nature of a contractor's job, you start to really appreciate all of the buildings around you. It's that appreciation that we really hope shines through as we write this blog to share with you all, our loyal readers.
